Yom HaShoah, known in English as Holocaust Remembrance Day, occurs on the 27th day of the month of Nisan. It is a memorial day for those Jews who died as a result of the atrocities committed against us during World War II. Shoah is another word for Holocaust which means catastrophe or utter destruction in Hebrew. It also stems from a Greek word meaning "sacrifice by fire." It is common to light memorial candles and say Kaddish on this day to keep the memories of these victims alive.
